Therapy Modalities
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a type of therapy that helps individuals move beyond
negative thoughts and feelings by accepting them as a natural part of life, while committing to actions
aligned with their values. The core principals of ACT involve acceptance, mindfulness, values,
commitment, and psychological flexibility. ACT can be used to treat a variety of conditions including
anxiety, depression and chronic pain.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is a form of treatment that views the mind as composed of
different “parts” or sub-personalities. Treatment involves helping the individual understand and heal
these internal parts by interacting with them as if they were a family. The goal is to access a core,
compassionate “self” within each client. IFS can be helpful for a variety of challenges including
depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use, relationship issues and stress management.
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) is an approach to therapy that emphasizes the role of emotions in
understanding and changing behavior, relationships, and overall well-being. The goal of this treatment
is fostering emotional awareness and regulation. EFT can be delivered individually, with families or with
couples.
Polyvagal therapy is rooted in polyvagal theory and is a treatment approach that helps individuals regain
control over their autonomic nervous system by promoting self-awareness and self-regulation
techniques. Polyvagal therapy uses strategies such as breathing exercises, mindful movement, sensory
grounding, and co-regulation.
Somatic therapy is a type of treatment that focuses on the body and its role in emotional and mental
health. A key principle of this treatment is the mindbody connection. Somatic therapy also helps clients
regulate their nervous system. This therapy is helpful in alleviating symptoms of trauma, anxiety,
depression and chronic pain.
Psychodynamic therapy helps the client explore unconscious processes and past experiences to
understand how they influence current behaviors and relationships. The goal of this therapy is to foster
self-awareness and address psychological issues. In this therapy the therapist generally takes a more
passive role, providing a safe and supportive space for clients to explore their thoughts and feelings.
