Specialized Therapies
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence-based treatment for addressing challenging behavior in young children, typically ages 2-7. PCIT involves a trained therapist coaching caregivers in specific skills and strategies to improve interactions with their child. The goals of this treatment are to reduce child behavior problems, improve parent-child relationships and communication, increase positive parenting behavior and decrease parental stress. In this treatment the majority of sessions are held with caregivers and the child together.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy technique designed to treat trauma, as well as other mental health conditions associated with upsetting memories. It can also be used to treat anxiety, depression and a variety of other conditions. EMDR involves sessions with a trained therapist who helps the client identify a distressing memory or situation, focus on this memory while engaging in bi-lateral stimulation (back and forth eye or other movements), process the emotions, beliefs and sensations associated with the memory, and install positive beliefs to replace negative ones.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is a type of evidence-based therapy that helps individuals manage mental health challenges by focusing on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The goal of CBT is to help clients identify and change unhelpful patterns to improve overall well-being. CBT also involves the client, slowly and carefully working with the therapist to face stressors and triggers in order to reduce distress. CBT is a structured and goal-oriented therapeutic modality.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment approached designed to help children, adolescents, and their caregivers cope with the effects of traumatic experiences. TF-CBT specifically addresses the emotional, behavioral, and cognitive challenges related to traumatic events. TF-CBT helps the client reduce symptoms of trauma, and improve emotional regulation and coping skills.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a form of talk therapy that helps individuals develop skills to manage intense emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, and tolerate distress. The goal is to ultimately help clients create a life worth living. DBT focuses on helping clients balance acceptance and change, recognizing that both are necessary for positive growth and well-being.
